– In the summer of 2015, during the Tour de France, I sat in a Toyota Corolla and poured mineral water over my head on the road between Utrecht and Eibergen. My friend drank a Marabou chocolate cake.

What is the most underrated summer activity?

– Devoting the night to various projects. It's light outside, everybody else is sleeping, no one is calling or emailing. As a parent of small children, you apparently shouldn't do that.

– Indulge. You don't need to treat yourself to anything - just do it, you always deserve everything and then some!

A beach and a book is a classic combo. What is your best book recommendation this summer?

– The Secret History by Donna Tartt, one of the best books I've read. It is about a young man who moves away to study Greek in an idyllic small town, to escape his depressing and stagnant hometown. The book begins with a scene from the future, where he and some of his friends kill another of the friends in the group. Oh my god it's so good. Just read it.

How do you survive when it's too hot?

– No. Unfortunately not.

Jess and the Ancient Ones – Sulfur Giants

– I can't really explain it but it's just like wind in the hair and warm, endless summer roads and sunsets and sunrises and countless new horizons waiting to be explored. Don't listen too much to the lyrics, just feel the feeling.

What do you do if it's not just a rainy day, but a rainy week?

– I enjoy those too. In fact, I sometimes hope it will be a rainy week. There are always things to do at home that are deprioritized when the sun shines. Replant flowers, read a book, go to the cinema, cook something new and fun for dinner.

Where are we most likely to find you this summer?

– In the archipelago, on the bicycle, on the outdoor terrace or on a mountain top outside Gällivare.

– Hmm, not so surprising, but I'm always surprised by how damn good grilled onions and mushrooms actually are.

– Blame it on hand eczema and ask someone else to do it for you.
